How can Shamanic Energy Medicine Help Western Healthcare Workers?

This is an invitation from one western healthcare worker to another. It’s an invitation to explore how Shamanic Energy Medicine can help you. It is open to anyone in the healthcare system who has daily contact with patients (physicians, nurses, medical assistants, or others).

If you have worked in healthcare for any amount of time, you know how challenging it can be. Your daily routine includes:

  • making complex treatment decisions, often quickly and under duress

  • managing patients’ medical concerns, and their fears and anxieties

  • dealing with their family members, who are often equally frightened, and

  • working in a healthcare bureaucracy that may sometimes feel indifferent.

Over the years, the stressful effects of working in this high intensity, high stakes environment can accumulate and start to weigh you down. If you don’t release the accumulated stress, it can turn into anxiety, depression, or even burnout.

Have you been successful in letting go of that accumulated stress and anxiety?

Working in healthcare has always been challenging, but it has gotten exponentially worse in the past two and a half years since COVID. An already strained system with already strained workers was strained even further.

For many healthcare workers, the added strain has led them to ask serious, probing questions: Why am I doing this work? Is it worth it? Should I leave healthcare? Or what can I do to keep myself healthy and continue to do the work that I love?

These are all valid questions. Have you asked yourself these questions? If you have read this far, you probably have.

I asked myself these same questions back in 2016 when I was a hospitalist. I had been practicing General Internal Medicine for 11 years at that point and needed a change. These are not easy questions to answer, but my search led me to study both acupuncture and shamanic energy medicine. Since then, I’ve kept a foot in both worlds – western healthcare and alternative medicine.

Shamanic healing is about as different from the mainstream of western medicine as it can get. Western medicine is necessarily about logic, rigor, and the physical body. Shamanic healing is about intuition, metaphor, and the ineffable spirit in all of us. This difference is its great, unique strength. Because shamanic healing deals with these more rarified aspects of ourselves, I’ve become convinced that it can help answer these deeper, more fundamental questions. It can’t help but give a fresh and novel perspective to the questions you are facing. It is like the photo filter on your phone – able to highlight certain aspects of the problem that you may not have been able to see before.

I firmly believe that I’ve traversed the vast distance between these fields so that I can provide this unique perspective to my colleagues who are still in western healthcare.

Whether you are seeking a new direction in your life, or peace of mind right where you are, a shamanic healing session might be the right fit for you. I invite you to reach out and schedule a phone consultation.

Thank you.
